January Subscriber Picks | Top 3 Beers

Kia ora beer aficionados! Welcome to the first of many in the Subscriber Picks series.

The what now?

We have conducted a poll with our subscribers to select the top 3 beers from our January Judges’ Selection. We plan to turn this into an ongoing series with the intent of giving our subscribers some say in what they want to see in our future boxes. Plus, it’s a fun way to pick up on trends and preferences!

Wait, how did I miss this?

The poll was sent via email to all the subscribers who got our January box. If you are not a subscriber, have paused your subscription or just got bought it as a one-off box you wouldn’t have gotten the email. This was one of the many perks we introduced for subscribers only in 2025, in addition to new discounts, exclusive content, and spoilers for our next boxes. If you enjoy our boxes and would like access to all these perks, why not signing up for a subscription?

Ok, so what about the results?

The people have spoken and Garage Project takes the top prize with their yerba mate and lime Yacaré Lager. This doesn’t surprise me at all. If you’ve never had a glass of cold mate tea with lime, I can’t recommend it enough on a hot day. On top of that, GP has always been very good at making their gimmicky beers feel like beers (not gimmicks) and this one is no exception. Tastes and drinks like a refreshing Lager, but with enough of a twist to keep you entertained and wanting more.

Coming in second place and proving that Belgian styles are still alive and kicking, we have McLeod’s Sunset Witbier. A hazy, yeasty, wheaty ale leaning towards the sweet side of the wit spectrum but still surprisingly light. The wheat kick balances it out and makes this a great summer choice.

Last but not least, we’ve got a contemporary classic – Urbanaut’s Atlanta Bright IPA. This was the surprising pick for me, because it’s just a no-frills minimalist IPA. No wacky adjuncts, no weird dry-hopping, just a good IPA (and clear too!).

We’ve still got a few Jan boxes left and they’re on sale, so if you haven’t tried out these beers or want to go back for seconds, be sure to snatch one up.

Our Feb boxes are also shipping now and they’re going FAST. If you want to secure one, I highly suggest doing so ASAP. It features a couple of punchy hazy releases, plenty of lagers and light beers, and we’ve got some new breweries on this one!
